The Guardian peddled this among other reports following the firing of Former FBI Director Comey. This post was citing a NY Times article with the headline: “Days Before Firing, Comey Asked for More Resources for Russia Inquiry”. This NY Times article goes on to admit, however, that “It is not yet known what became of Mr. Comey’s request, or what role — if any — it played in his firing.” There were multiple sources that since debunked the claim that the Russia Probe was the reason Trump fired Comey. Sarah Flores, DOJ spokeswoman said: “the idea that he asked for more funding” for the Russia inquiry was “totally false.” Furthermore, Ian Prior, a spokesman for the Department of Justice at the time, described the reports that Comey had sought additional resources as “totally false”, according to The Washington Examiner.
